Time Is Relative

Do you remember moments in life where an hour felt like a minute and a minute like a second? Although we are from so many different countries from all over the world, speaking different languages and having different cultural backgrounds, we are so familiar with each other that it feels like we have known each other for months.

How can it be? Time seems to be absolute because we usually use it as a measuring instrument.  Quotes such as ‘Time is money’ (Benjamin Franklin) are familiar to us. So how can time be relative? Albert Einstein taught us with his ‘Theory of Relativity’ that among others objects can move slower than usual. It just depends on the point of view of the observer.

So did we change our point of view? In a rhetorical way I would say “yes”. We chose to be open-minded people in life who like to share experiences with and learn from each other. That is one of the reasons why we are here now. We all have the same point of view.

I suppose that this is one of the reasons for this amazing phenomenon. It does not matter where one is from; what their cultural background is and what language they speak – what matters is your mind and your point of view to the objective – to life. Yes, time is relative.

  1. It really is amazing how quickly a group can bond if, as you say, the people are open to friendship and are tolerant of differences. You are part of an amazing group! Even though the time is going fast, remember you still have almost 2 more weeks together. Imagine how close you'll all be by the end!

  2. "Do you remember moments in life where an hour felt like a minute and a minute like a second?" I know that it was a rhetorical question but interesting enough I do remember. But like you clearly stated it's only a matter of view point.
It's amazing to find out that somewhere on the other side of the world there's someone that completes me. Some of us feel like we've known each other forever and some are just bounded for life. My roomy and I are almost inseparable. How did St John's know to put us together? Yes, time is a matter of living it to the fullest now. We want to get to know each other not only on a personal level but develop that interest about the each other's country and also finding them on the map. Time is so short but yet the way we are living it is like we've been with each other for quite some time.

  3. I share the same feelings...I don't know. I simply refuse to look into the farthest moments of our life. We are here. We made friends who became a part of our life. Could such moments be forgotten???!!!!Never!!!!!! I feel as if I've gone to the same kindergarten with all of you, then school, university , now pre-academic. I presuppose we even have "universal pattern" of thinking as Jung once said. We share too much common among us. Remember, wise people said that nothing is happening for no results, if you happen to meet a person on the road and get acquainted it's not mere occasion, it was all already planned, from some higher forces. I do know our meeting is not a chance, it's some fate...

    1. Yes, I agree, everything happens for a reason!
I hope the relationships formed here continue beyond St John's...better yet, cant we just all stay here?!
